{Sewing} Scrap buster! Little zip bags.

>> Wednesday, September 1, 2010

I've been trying for some time to think of what I am going to do with the piles or scraps I have laying around my studio. I started messing with them last night and decided to make a pair of little zip bags to have around for special occasions, gifts, etc. They are little so they don't take much time and Terry Atkinson's zipper technique from her new Cash and Carry pattern makes the result the best I've had!

I made them about 4" x 10" then boxed the corners so they stand on their own. I used laminate for the lining bottom and put fabric on the upper part of the lining.

I think my favorite part has to be the jeweled zipper tabs...so glamorous!

I like to keep things like this around for special occasions or when I forget a friends birthday (such a bad friend!) or to give to someone special in my life just because. One of these has a special home with someone who does so much for me..I really think she'll like it!

Happy Stitching xx

Awesome! I was inspired by your little bags, and just made one myself. I sorta just winged it and I think it turned out pretty nicely. My zipper doesn't look as nice as yours! Did you use interfacing or batting or anything inside it? mine seems a little floppy. :) lol. Thanks for the inspiration!

emedoodle-

I am so thrilled you we inspired! As for the zipper, try Terry Atkinsons new pattern Cash and Carry, it has a wonderful zipper technique! I also put Pellon Fusible Fleece for the interfacing on my exterior pieces before I do the topstitching. Then when I topstitch it 'quilts' the interfacing as well which gives nice dimension if you use the fusible fleece. (the interfacing has a bit of loft to it, but I wouldn't use anything else!) As for the lining there are home dec fabrics as well as laminate, which are both a heavier weight fabric than normal quilting weight...all of which helps! :)

These are so lovely! You've got such a great eye for mixing & matching your scraps in a beautiful way, and so resource for finding something to turn them in to!
