"I wear glamour or nothing at all!"

It's here! It's finally here! Back in January I saw this great print when I was with a rep that I have been waiting and waiting for! Alexander Henry always has great prints, shocking design, and a knack for the perfect vintage pin-up girl.  I just can't help myself.  This print is called Devilish Darlings, in the Nicole's Prints section from Alexander Henry Fabrics. I love the vintage rock glam feel of the fabric, and the bright colors contrasted on the white background.

I figured the picture from the web (above) does not do the print justice, so I had to capture it myself.

As you can see the color really makes it pop! I chose the retro small polka dot from Tanya Whelan's line Ava Rose to coordinate because I love the pin-up feel of the dot. Plus, who can resist a strong watermelon/hot pink color this time of year?! I just couldn't wait to sew something with this large print, the only problem being it was so large. The first thing that came to mind is a pattern we have in the store called 'Vintage Tote' by Some Assembly Required. I love the shape and the button that closes the center. Its pretty much a great large tote, one that you can easily access and is comfortable to carry.

Like I mentioned above I love the button closure in the center, which helps to hold all your treasures in your bag! I chose a large, plain, 80's style purple button to go with the rest of the bag. It fits perfectly!

When you look inside the bag the hot pink dots just put you in a good mood. I just can't get over it. I love this bag! The best part of the lining is the pocket. I fussy cut the pocket so it framed the pin-up girl in lingerie, and the quote, "I wear glamor or nothing at all." I love it!

A purse for Dak

>> Sunday, March 28, 2010

I have a great friend who has moved far away from me. (AZ!) I miss her terribly and only get to see her every once in a great while. but we always seem to go right back to where we left off when we meet again. She has great style, is an interior designer and is absolutely fabulous. I promised her a purse a LONG time ago, but better late than never. I am getting this done! I chose the vintage feel of the red and cream polka dot paired with the always great party girls fabric from Michael Miller, it fits her classic style perfectly. I am not sure of the design, but I do a lot with the jute webbing I use to re-do/re-upholster my furniture. We'll see how it turns out. I hope she likes it!

Here it is!

I love the simple design and the size! Its large enough to hold a couple magazines, a laptop, planner and cell phone. The straps give out enough room so you don't have to take the bag off your shoulder to look inside. The best part is the lining and the pockets. I am simply in love with Michael Miller's Mirror Ball dots so I chose them in Rice to give the bag a little bit of glamour.

I love that the inside is large enough to fit a few magazines. I am always carrying around design magazines, sewing (like stitch!) and back issues of Domino.

As always I add 'Amor Fati' to the inside somewhere, which is my personal motto. It means: Love your life, love what is, nothing is without purpose. I gave it to her today and she absolutely loved it! Another project completed!
